Should The UFC Cut Overeem?

AUTHOR: | IN: Alistair Overeem, UFC | COMMENTS: None Yet

It was announced Wednesday that Alistair Overeem had failed he pre-fight drug test for UFC 146. After years of speculation of how Overeem went from a thin light heavyweight to a hulk like heavyweight we may finally have an answer. Overeem had raised testosterone levels of 10:1 while the NSAC allows up to 6:1 ratios. After a string of failed drug tests and drug issues it may be finally time for the UFC to set precedent. Chael Sonnen tested positive for raised testosterone after UFC 117, Nate Marquardt was cut the day before his bout with Rick Story after raised [...]

Could Strikeforce Have Really Competed?

AUTHOR: | IN: Alistair Overeem, Gilbert Melendez, Jake Shields, Nick Diaz, Strikeforce | COMMENTS: None Yet

When Zuffa bought out Strikeforce and took control of the company it was assumed it would absorb into the UFC, it’s still currently a separate promotion, but looks like it will be absorbed soon. The question is looking back though could it have competed with the UFC? Strikeforce had a television deal with Showtime and was even shown on CBS although that ended in a brawl and ultimately spelled their cable demise. It had stars like Dan Henderson, Allistair Overeem, Fedor Emelianenko, Gilbert Melendez and Jake Shields. There was the personalities of Nick Diaz and Mayhem Miller and was a [...]

AUTHOR: | IN: Strikeforce | COMMENTS: None Yet

Strikeforce officials did what we all thought possible. No, that’s not making Fedor fight more than once a year — even though he will have to for this event — but it is put together some of the top heavyweights in the world for a World Grand Prix beginning February 12th. The tournament will kick off at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey with Andre Arlovski taking on Sergei Kharitono and Fedor returning to action against Antonio “Big Foot” Silva. There will also be two reserve bouts for the tournament: Shane Del Rosario vs. Lavar Johnson and Valentijn [...]

Todd Duffee To Face Alistair Overeem In DREAM On NYE?

AUTHOR: | IN: Strikeforce | COMMENTS: None Yet

Todd Duffee recently turned down a chance to fight under the Strikeforce banner and face Antonio Silva. He politely declined the fight and is now scheduled to fight TUF alum Abe Wagner in the headline bout at Titan Fighting Championship on January 29th. However, in the past day there has been an interesting turn. Duffee posted on Facebook, “Todd Duffee Have no plans on NYE?! Dream Dynamite 2010 : Duffee VS Overeem on HDnet!!!” The comment seems to have been deleted since then, but it was there and is cause for discussion. Is Duffee really that interested in ending his [...]

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA, Strikeforce | COMMENTS: None Yet

In an anticlimactic announcement by Strikeforce, Nick Diaz is set to face off against Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos in San Jose, California for the organization’s January 29th show. The bout will be for Diaz’s welterweight title and is likely to serve and the event’s main event of the evening. After the build up to a potential showdown against Mayhem Miller finally haulted, Diaz had to take a fight. Unfortunately for the fans, there would be more intrigue if Diaz was facing off against women’s champion and Evangelista Cyborg’s wife, Cris. Cyborg is only 3-2 in his last five fights and 5-5 [...]

The UFC and WEC have previously invaded Columbus, Ohio from 2007-2010 to take advantage of the crowd brought into the city for the Arnold’s Classic. Strikeforce Delivers Three Straight First-Round KOs

AUTHOR: | IN: Strikeforce | COMMENTS: None Yet

Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu started off with a one-sided decision in favor of Ovince St. Preux as he destroyed Benji Radach. After that bout, things started to get interesting.
