It was reported earlier today that Nick Diaz will return to Strikeforce in January to face Marius Zaromskis for the Strikeforce welterweight championship. Zaromskis (13-3) has been a big name in the mixed martial arts community for quite some time, but just this year he really exploded onto the scene and gained the American fans attention. Nick Diaz has been absent from the cage since June when failed to show up for drug testing prior to his fight with Jay Hieron. His return to Strikeforce finally has a date. Diaz will return to the organization on January 28 to headline the “Strikeforce: Miami” card. The opponent for Diaz will be Marius Zaromskis, the DREAM welterweight grand prix winner. In this interview with Fight Magazine, Frank Shamrock talks about the Strikeforce signing of Dan Henderson. Shamrock discusses who Henderson should fight and he even welcomes a bout with Hendo. MMA Sanctioned in Vancouver
Mixed martial arts is continuing it’s expansion worldwide and the latest area to sanction MMA is Vancouver, Canada. The Vancouver City Council held a vote today and by a 6-3 vote the sport will now be allowed to hold events in Vancouver after being banned for two years. “I’m ready to now support this sport,” Vancouver councillor Heather Deal said during the council meeting. “I think it’s time.” Per the report: Lawrence Epstein, a lawyer for Zuffa, which owns the Ultimate Fighting Championship, told council that the prominent MMA promotion has “never really had any serious injuries” or deaths at [...]
Ariel Helwani of MMA Fanhouse has some exciting news today. According to his report: A CBS spokesperson informed FanHouse on Tuesday that the network will broadcast its fifth MMA event next year, and that it will most likely air during the month of the April. While no specific date or venue has been made official, Fedor Emelianenko and Dan Henderson have agreed to compete on the card. Their opponents have yet to be signed. Herschel Walker working with Cain Velasquez (video)
Herschel Walker will be making his mixed martial arts debut for Strikeforce on Jan. 20, 2010. He has not yet been given an opponent, but the event will be held in Sunrise, Florida. Walker has been working at the American Kickboxing Academy, which is one of the countries top gyms. In this video you can see Walker working with one of the UFC’s top heavyweights, Cain Velasquez:
