What Are Mir’s Chances?

AUTHOR: | IN: UFC | COMMENTS: None Yet

Frank Mir will take on Junior Dos Santos for the heavyweight title at UFC 146 May 26 after Overeem was forced out of the bout. Overeem tested positive for raised testosterone levels and has been suspended for  nine months. Mir immediately stepped up saying he would be willing to fight Dos Santos and the UFC granted his request. This fight is a lot more interesting than it looks. While it may seem like an easy win for Dos Santos because of his huge knockout power the jiu-jitsu of Mir makes this bout a lot more interesting. Dos Santos is a [...]

Is Nate Diaz As Champ Good For the UFC?

AUTHOR: | IN: Nate Diaz | COMMENTS: None Yet

Nate Diaz takes on Jim Miller at UFC on Fox 3 Saturday, May 5. The winner of the bout will get the next shot at the winner of the Edgar-Henderson rematch. If Miler wins it’s great for the UFC because he is a professional fighter who has the best interest of the country involved. What happens if Diaz wins the fight? Diaz has been an interesting figure throughout his UFC career. He won The Ultimate Fighter 5 and managed to win four straight fights before losing to Clay Guida. Diaz then fought a couple more times at lightweight before moving [...]

What If Koscheck Beats Hendricks?

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA, UFC | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Josh Koscheck will take on fast rising Johny Hendricks at UFC on Fox on Saturday, May 5. Hendricks is coming off a quick knock out win against perennial No. 2 Jon Fitch. He’s won three straight fights and the Fitch win is be far the biggest of his career. It launched him from above average welterweight to top contender, but what happens if Koscheck defeats him? This would push Koscheck straight back into contendership, but he’s coming off a questionable split decision win against Mike Pierce. Koscheck has lost both of his fights against Georges St. Pierre and neither fight [...]

UFC 145 Main Event: Jon Jones vs Rashad Evans

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA, UFC | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

This Saturday will see Champion John “Bones” Jones face-off against former champion and team mate Rashad Evans. The UFC have released one final promotional video before the fight. Not that this fight needs much promotion given the bad blood between these two — you can watch the video here . Here’s the thing , it seems to me that “Bones” Jones has become very cocky since winning the strap against Shogan Rua at UFC 128. There is no problem with a fighter being cocky, in fact it is to be expected, after all he is the champion. You have to go [...]

Rory MacDonald Take Notes

AUTHOR: | IN: Rory MacDonald | COMMENTS: None Yet

Rory MacDonald is fighting in the co-main event of UFC 145 against Che Mills and could probably learn a couple things from the Jon Jones-Rashad Evans beef. MacDonald is the young up and comer at welterweight, he looks like he’s on a fast track to a title after throwing around lightweight contender Nate Diaz like a rag doll and is only 22 years old. Oh, and if you didn’t know, he trains at Tristar the same gym as Georges St. Pierre. MacDonald is on an eerily similar track that Jones was on in the light heavyweight division, it ultimately caused [...]

The Ideal Promotion-Media Relationship?

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA, UFC, Zuffa | COMMENTS: None Yet

We all know that relationships can be hard, the classic line “can’t live with them, can’t live without them” comes to mind. Relationships have to be worked at and developed, there are good times and bad. Although this sounds like marriage counselling it is not. The UFC just like any other company selling a product needs to promote that product. Even if the UFC is the biggest MMA promotion in the world everyone in the office still rules the daily risk that they will fade into obscurity. To garner the level of promotion needed the brand needs to constantly be exposed on a number [...]

If Evans Loses Where Does He Go?

AUTHOR: | IN: Jackson's MMA, Rashad Evans, UFC | COMMENTS: None Yet

Saturday, April 21, at UFC 145 Jon Jones will take on Rashad Evans for the light heavyweight title. Many experts and basically everyone who follows MMA are picking Jon Jones to win pretty handily. While Evans has trained with Jones the way Jones has defeated fighters makes it difficult to give the challenger more than a punchers chance. Evans will have to manage to get inside the range of Jones, avoid his takedowns and the wild strikes he throws. That’s a lot to ask for. Jones is the light heavyweight champ for a reason and he’s made it look relatively [...]

The Ever Improving Brian Stann

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA, UFC | COMMENTS: None Yet

Brian Stann got back on track at UFC on Fuel TV 2 April 14, defeating Alessio Sakara by knockout. He also had one of the classiest moves ever in a fight by immediately stopping to call over the referee when he realized Sakara was out. Stann was also able to show his improving clinch game, repeatedly kneeing Sakara before using short elbows on the ground to finish him. It’s by far one of the best performances from Brian Stann and it seems he may be on the path towards contendership after a tough loss to Chael Sonnen. He has gone [...]

Thiago Silva’s Road Back

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA, UFC | COMMENTS: None Yet

Thiago Silva faces Alexander Gustaffson at UFC on Fuel this weekend in his first fight since a failed drug test after a win over Brandon Vera. This was nearly a year ago and we all got a good laugh, but now Silva comes back to a very large drug issue in MMA. After UFC 125 Silva tested positive for what was called “urine inconsistent with that of humans.” At the time we all laughed and made jokes of it, but now he may be on thin ice coming back. Since the failed test over a year ago there have been [...]

Should The UFC Cut Overeem?

AUTHOR: | IN: Alistair Overeem, UFC | COMMENTS: None Yet

It was announced Wednesday that Alistair Overeem had failed he pre-fight drug test for UFC 146. After years of speculation of how Overeem went from a thin light heavyweight to a hulk like heavyweight we may finally have an answer. Overeem had raised testosterone levels of 10:1 while the NSAC allows up to 6:1 ratios. After a string of failed drug tests and drug issues it may be finally time for the UFC to set precedent. Chael Sonnen tested positive for raised testosterone after UFC 117, Nate Marquardt was cut the day before his bout with Rick Story after raised [...]
