What Becomes of Rumble?

AUTHOR: | IN: Anthony Johnson, MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

Dana White just used the three strikes and you’re out policy to cut ties with welterweight/middleweight fighter Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. The question now isn’t whether or not Johnson can compete in the UFC, but can he keep his weight under control. He has missed weight three times in his career, twice at 171 pounds and most recently missing by 12 pounds for his middleweight bout with Vitor Belfort. This isn’t the usual cut of a fighter based on performance, but whether Johnson can actually show up in shape to fights. Johnson looked slow and drawn out in the fight with [...]

AUTHOR: | IN: Anderson Silva, Anthony Johnson, Jose Aldo, Michael Bisping, Rousimar Palhares, Vitor Belfort | COMMENTS: None Yet

What a way to start off the new year. Jose Aldo continued his dominance of the featherweight division at UFC 142 in Rio while Vitor Belfort made sure an overweight “Rumble” Johnson didn’t stop the momentum he built after his vicious knockout of “Sexyama.” The rest of the card was no sneeze fest, Palhares grabbed his signature heel hook against Mike Massenzio and Edson Barboza gave us a knockout of the year candidate with his spinning heel kick.  Here are the matches to make after UFC 142 for the main card winners. Jose Aldo vs. Chan Sung Jung Aldo destroyed [...]

Rashad Evans Responds to Being Passed Over For Lyoto Machida

AUTHOR: | IN: UFC | COMMENTS: None Yet

Rashad Evans has seen a fight with Jon Jones lined up twice now before injury has derailed both of the potential title fights. First the two were going to fight at UFC 133, but Jones had a hand injury that was said to require surgery and then didn’t. Rashad joked about Jones ducking him at that point, but now Rashad had an injury of his own that has delayed the fight once again. Evans had pins removed from his injured thumb, but his doctor will not clear him for any activity until another three weeks. That timeline didn’t fit with [...]

UFC 140: Will Lyoto Machida Be Jon Jones’ Toughest Fight Yet?

AUTHOR: | IN: UFC | COMMENTS: None Yet

UFC president Dana White just dropped a bombshell to the Twitter universe today by announcing the main event for UFC 140, which will take place in Toronto on December 10th. Light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones will be putting his title on the line, but not against former teammate Rashad Evans like we were all led to believe. Instead, Jones will be facing former champion Lyoto Machida. Machida is coming off of an impressive knockout victory over mixed martial arts legend Randy Couture, while Jones has reeled off five straight impressive victories.

Anderson Silva-Vitor Belfort UFC 126 Presser Staredown (GIF)

AUTHOR: | IN: Anderson Silva, UFC, Vitor Belfort | COMMENTS: None Yet

This just went down between UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and challenger Vitor Belfort at the UFC 126 press conference in Vegas. Hard to say if Belfort was indeed shook (as many fans are suggesting), but one thing is certain: the champ is trying to get into the challenger’s head. The “Weigh In” on Friday promises to be even more intense. Only 72 hours away from our Super Bowl, fight fans. (hat tip: Bloody Elbow)

A Brief Love Note to Carlos Condit

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA, UFC | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

Carlos Condit is not the best welterweight in the world. He’s not a freak athletic specimen. He’s not a wrecking machine. Despite what the infallible Tale of the Tape may have led you to believe, Carlos Condit isn’t even a “natural born killer.” Since joining the UFC Condit has not ran through his competition. He does not have a collection of top ten ranked fighters pelts on his wall. He is a skinny punk with substandard wrestling, doomed to never truly crack into the elite. Carlos Condit is mangy. Mangy. Mangy isn’t really a word most elite athletes would want [...]
