Henderson Scores “Smooth” Submission Victory to Capture WEC Gold

WEC 46 came to a close on Sunday night with a lightweight unification bout between current champion Jamie Varner and the interim champ Ben “Smooth” Henderson. Varner was out of action for a year due to injury, but he brought a five-fight win streak into the main event. Henderson had an impressive streak of his own that included nine straight wins — five coming by submission. Varner immediately took the fight to the ground and sunk in a guillotine choke. Urijah Faber Scores Submission Victory In WEC Return

Urijah Faber returned to the WEC cage for the first time in 7 months. Faber has been out of action since he attempted to win his featherweight title back from Mike Thomas Brown at WEC 41 in June. “The California Kid” was forced to undergo surgery after a serious break in his hand, and the former champ said he was finally 100% healthy and ready to go. Former Champ Mike Brown Victorious At WEC 46

Mike Thomas Brown stepped back in the WEC cage tonight for the first time since he lost his featherweight title to Brazilian sensation Jose Aldo. His opponent — Anthony “Cheesesteak” Morrison — was making his WEC debut. Brown quickly showed off why he became the champion. WEC GM Reed Harris Discusses WEC 46 & Possible Reality Show

Reed Harris discusses the WEC 46 as well as future plans for the WEC and it’s title picture. Harris hints that Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone will be next in line for a title shot and he will get the winner of Varner-Henderson. The WEC is considering putting together a 125-pound division and Harris states that the organization is in the process of putting together a reality television series to crown the champion of the new weight-class.

UFC Fight Night 20 Weight-In Results

The weigh-ins for tomorrow nights UFC Fight Night 20 in in Fairfax, Virginia took place today. Fight Night 20 will air live on Spike TV. All fighters made weight. The event will be headlined by a match between The Ultimate Fighter 5 alum Nate Diaz (11-4) and Gray Maynard (8-0). Former WEC Lightweight Champ Hermes Franca Retires

Hermes Franca (19-8) has announced his retirement from mixed martial arts at age 35. Franca was a UFC veteran and at one time held the WEC lightweight title. “The fans gave me the passion and strength that kept me competing at the championship levels for all these years. Without them, I couldn’t have done it.
