Chael Sonnen Is Safe Again

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

The UFC held the press conference for Silva-Sonnen II Tuesday and made an announcement that made everyone, including Sonnen, even if he won’t admit it, feel a little safer. Sonnen will no longer fight Silva in Brazil due to scheduling conflicts and the fight will instead take place in Las Vegas July, 7. While Sonnen won’t admit it there was legitimate fear for his life if the fight were to take place in Brazil. He has constantly ripped on the country, its fighters and people. There was actual worry that he could be killed and it’s not too far fetched. [...]

Could All UFC Belts Be Held By Brazilians?

AUTHOR: | IN: Anderson Silva, Jose Aldo, MMA, PRIDE FC, Rousimar Palhares, Shogun Rua, Thiago Alves, UFC, Vitor Belfort | COMMENTS: None Yet

In the UFC Anderson Silva owns the middleweight division, Junior Dos Santos currently holds the heavyweight belt and Jose Aldo is the featherweight champion. Could we eventually see a UFC with eight Brazilians as title holders? I’ll examine each weight class looking at the possibility and likelihood of each. Heavyweight Division: This one is fairly obvious. Dos Santos is currently the champ and with his boxing skills could be champion for a long time. He is rumored to have outstanding jiu-jitsu and while we haven’t seen it yet if he gets past Overeem at UFC 146 both Mir and Velasquez [...]

Anderson Silva Dances on Stage With Justin Bieber [video]

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

I took a break from Cage Pages for a little while to get another project up and going. With that finally gaining steam, I can now come back and bring my attention back to mixed martial arts and CagePages.com. For the first post back, I sure found a gem. Pound-for-pound king and current UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva returned to Brazil but it wasn’t for training. Silva took the stage in front of many, many screaming teen girls and likely their fathers. The fathers were probably screaming for Silva, while the teen girls were screaming for the young man on [...]

Anderson Silva vs Yushin Okami At UFC Rio?

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

UFC middleweight champion and a national celebrity after knocking Vitor Belfort out at UFC 126, Anderson Silva will be the biggest star of UFC Rio card. According to Rodrigo ‘Minotauro’ Nogueira, former UFC heavyweight champion and his training partner, Silva will fight Yushin Okami, the last opponent to defeat him (by DQ at Rumble on the Rock 8, in 2006), trying to set a new record of nine straight title defenses in the UFC. The return of the organization to Brazil will take place at Rio de Janeiro’s HSBC Arena, on August 27. Clipped from: www.tatame.com (share this clip) UPDATE: [...]

Anderson Silva takes the time to do an interview with ULTMMA and comments on multiple issues, including current light-heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones. Silva is impressed with Jones, but did not seem too interested in moving up to 205 to face him. Silva is happy at 185-pounds.

Big Matt’s Fight Chat: the UFC Middleweight Division

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

I’m about to say something many of you will find ridiculous: the UCF middleweight division is, without question, the most compelling in the promotion.  I’m dead serious. I don’t have any hard data to support this, but I get the feeling most fans would rank middleweight as the division they like the least.  Even among pundits, you catch some snide remarks now and again.  The biggest fights are at heavyweight, the biggest stars are at light heavyweight, welterweight is the deepest, and lightweight has been re-energized thanks to the WEC merger and the shockingly amazing Edgar/Maynard I.  Middleweight?  The division under the [...]

Big Matt’s Fight Chat: UFC 126 Retrospecticus

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

Well, we’ve all seen the front kick about a hundred times.  We all know how awesome it was.  I’m not gonna sling any hyperbole or weigh in on what the kick does to Anderson Silva’s legacy, because you’ve heard all that.  I will say this: I think that front kick was every bit as impressive as Anthony Pettis’ showtime kick.  Maybe more so.  Blasphemy?  Consider: Pettis’ kick was definitely flashier, and arguably more unexpected.  It wins the “oh shit!’ contest by a landslide.  But it didn’t end the fight.  Silva’s kick knocked Vitor Belfort the f*ck out.  The lights may have [...]

Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort Staredown (Photo & GIF)

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

At tonight’s weigh-ins, all hell almost broke loose when the participants for the UFC middleweight championship came toe to toe. The usually calm Anderson Silva responded to a comment from Vitor Belfort earlier in the week which referred to Silva entering the cage wearing a mask and not being his real self. Silva seemed to have taken offense to the comment. Silva literally made Belfort’s comments true as he put on a mask and then pressed his face against the challengers at the staredown. When Silva lifted his mask, he exchanged some words with Belfort and the intensity picked up [...]
