BJ Penn Wants To Return

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

After retiring after a loss to Nick Diaz at UFC 137, BJ Penn retired from the UFC. He is one of only two men to hold a title in two different weight classes and was one of the most dominant lightweights of all time. While he failed to live up to “The Prodigy” he is still one of the most well known and successful UFC fighters and is now ready to return. Dana White said that if Penn returns it will most likely be at welterweight, but assuming he could return to lightweight let’s view some possible fights for him upon [...]

BJ Penn Calls Out Jake Shields

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

No group of top level athletes is better at using Twitter to network and socialize with their fans than mixed martial artists. Even before the UFC brilliantly decided it would start giving out “Twitter bonuses” the elite fighters were  taking to Twitter to let their true personalities shine. A growing trend in the MMA-Twitter world is for a fighter to call out another fighter. Most recently, former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion BJ Penn decided to reach out to top welterweight Jake Shields and display an interest in a fight. I don’t know what to say other than: Thank you [...]

RUMOR: Carlos Condit To Replace Jon Fitch Against BJ Penn At UFC 132

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The news broke earlier today that top ranked welterweight Jon Fitch has been forced out of his UFC 132 rematch against BJ Penn with a shoulder injury. Word is that Greg Jackson’s Carlos Condit will step up in competition and be Fitch’s replacement. Condit is currently riding a three-fight win streak defeating the likes of Jake Ellenberger, Rory MacDonald and most recently a highlight reel knockout over British slugger Dan Hardy. Penn would be the toughest test to date for the former WEC welterweight champion. Penn vs Condit would likely still serve as the events co-main event to a bantamweight [...]

BJ Penn vs. Jon Fitch In The Works For UFC 127

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

Following BJ Penn’s impressive performance at UFC 123, “The Prodigy” will now be looking to get back into the octagon as soon as possible. At the post-fight presser Penn would not commit to which weight class his next fight would be at. He, instead, said he would leave the decision up to UFC president Dana White. “BJ Penn comes in and and looks like the absolute world beater, best pound-for-pound in the world, and the next fight he doesn’t – you just don’t know,” White said. “I can tell you this – he looks better at 170 than he does [...]

UFC 123: Wives & Win Bonuses

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

This weekend I will be hanging out at my buddy’s house watching UFC 123. This event will include the rubber match between long time stand out fighters Matt Hughes & Baby J (BJ) Penn. These two guys have ruled their weight classes throughout most of the past 10 years. And although both have shown the signs of wear and tear in the recent past, both are hoping to prove that they aren’t finished with the fight game. I’m interested in a comment made by former 9 time UFC Welterweight Champ Hughes at a recent pre-UFC 123 press conference. Matt joked, [...]

A Country Boy Will Survive

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

This weekend at UFC 123 Matt Hughes and Bj Penn will be fighting their long anticipated (at least by me) rubber match in the ultimate match up of hard work vs skill. And for maybe the first time ever, I won’t be hoping that Matt Hughes accidentally knocks himself out on the way to the cage. For the entirety of my MMA fanship, I have been a Matt Hughes hater, but now, in the twilight of his career, I am finally starting to see the appeal. I’m not entirely sure what it was about Matt Hughes that made me hate [...]
