Saturday, April 21, at UFC 145 Jon Jones will take on Rashad Evans for the light heavyweight title. Many experts and basically everyone who follows MMA are picking Jon Jones to win pretty handily. While Evans has trained with Jones the way Jones has defeated fighters makes it difficult to give the challenger more than a punchers chance. Rashad Evans has seen a fight with Jon Jones lined up twice now before injury has derailed both of the potential title fights. First the two were going to fight at UFC 133, but Jones had a hand injury that was said to require surgery and then didn’t. Rashad joked about Jones ducking him at that point, but now Rashad had an injury of his own that has delayed the fight once again. UFC president Dana White just dropped a bombshell to the Twitter universe today by announcing the main event for UFC 140, which will take place in Toronto on December 10th. Light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones will be putting his title on the line, but not against former teammate Rashad Evans like we were all led to believe. Instead, Jones will be facing former champion Lyoto Machida. Machida is coming off of an impressive knockout victory over mixed martial arts legend Randy Couture, while Jones has reeled off five straight impressive victories.

UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones will be making his first title defense in Denver, Colorado at UFC 135 against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. The event will take place September 24th at the Pepsi Center. Also on the card is a co-main event bout between legend Matt Hughes and TUF champion Diego Sanchez. As MMA continues the transition to being accepted as a mainstream sport, the athletes have began to become more recognizable by the day. Most recently, UFC champions Jon Jones and Georges St-Pierre along with Strikeforce heavyweight Fabricio Werdum have been nominated for awards at the 2011 ESPY Awards. Strikeforce light-heavyweight fighter “King Mo” Lawal had some very unflattering words for UFC 205-pound champion Jon Jones. In an interview from FightHype.com, King Mo was asked what he thought about Jon Jones going to the media about text messages he received from former teammate and rival Rashad Evans. There is no doubt that an unbelievable amount of hype will build as the fight gets closer.
