24 hours after Bellator MMA signs former Penn State and Arizona State star wrestler Bubba Jenkins, Bellator MMA signs former WEC Welterweight competitor John Alessio.

John Alessio announced his signing with the company via his official Facebook.com page Friday night saying

“I signed a contract!!!!!!!! ………………………………….I am now a BELLATOR MMA fighter, very excited for this new chapter in my fight career.
Bellator MMA also announced that John Alessio will debut during season 9 which is set to air on national television in September.

The former WEC vet Alessio will be joining the company trying to rebound from his prior three fighters where he loss 2 bouts and his latest bout resulting in a no contest against Dave Mazany at AFC 13: Natural Selection.

Since turning pro in 1998, Alessio has made his presence felt in independent company’s such as SuperBrawl and Extreme Challange. Alessio got his big break in the WEC in 2006 and really made a name for himself in the company. He secured victories over Todd Moore, Brian Gassaway and Marcelo Brito. His tremendous octagon skills got him a chance to face off against then WEC Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit for the WEC Welterweight belt at WEC 26 but was unsuccessful.
