Bellator 153 is a huge event for the promotion, featuring the debut of former UFC champion Benson Henderson challenging Bellator Welterweight Champion Andrey Koreshkov for the title as the headliner.
Bellator MMA hit the Northeast with a great card for the fans in Uncasville, Connecticut. In the main event, top welterweights Andrey Koreshkov and Benson Henderson will battle for the belt.
Benson Henderson will be looking to make history as the first fighter to win titles in the WEC, UFC, and Bellator. Prior to exiting the UFC through free agency, he won a pair of fights in the welterweight division over Brandon Thatch and Jorge Masvidal. Henderson is 23-5 in his MMA career.
Andrey Koreshkov is the man standing in the way of Henderson. Koreshkov has an excellent 18-1 career record, with an excellent 10-1 record in Bellator. Koreshkov can win the fight anywhere, with 10 knockouts and three submissions in his career. The Russian became the Bellator Welterweight Champion with a decision victory last July. Tonight will be his first attempted defense of his title.
Also on the card, Patricio Freire will attempt to bounce back after losing his featherweight title last November. He will fight Henry Corrales in the co-main event, who has dropped his last two fights. Brennan Ward fights Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos in an early “Fight of the Night” candidate. Michael “Venom” Page continues his welterweight climb against Jeremie Holloway. Opening up the card will be Brent Primus seeking a welterweight title shot against Toninho Furia.
