With the longest break in between major UFC action ongoing, CagePages looks back at the best fights, finishes, and fighters of the first quarter of 2017.

It’s no secret, the UFC put a lot of eggs into the end of 2016.  As such, with injuries and time off, the biggest names in the sport have been noticeably absent throughout the first quarter of the year.  Fans have been clamouring or a marquee event to re-ignite the sport in 2017 and it appears they may finally have it this month at UFC 211.

However, that takes nothing away from several stand out performances to open up the calendar year.  Several fighters have already made their mark with spectacular finishes, either with history making submissions or jaw-dropping knockouts.  There are also breakthrough fighters to watch, athletes who were unknown on January 1st who have burst into the general MMA consciousness. The first thing to note is that these awards are for the first quarter of 2017 so they range from January 1st to March 31.  For example, Mike Perry’s knockout of Jake Ellenberger stands out but it is past the cutoff for this list.  Any notable finishes that occur between April 1 and June 31 will be eligible for the second quarter awards list, and so forth.
