Report: McGregor vs. Mayweather targeted for November

The showdown between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather may finally take place in November according to rumours.

It seems that the most talked about “fantasy fight” in the world between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather may be closer to taking place than previously thought.

According to The Daily Star, boxer Juan Manuel Marquez’s promoter may have actually let the cat out of the bag when talking to ESPN Deportes about a potential fight between Marquez and Miguel Cotto.

Marquez reportedly said, “It’s not a secret that we want to do that fight [between Marquez and Cotto] for this year and it could be for December. They’re talking about Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor for the month of November.”

The news was also reported by Fansided on Wednesday.

A fight between McGregor and Mayweather has been talked about for months, with many people dismissing the idea that the fight will ever actually happen.

Those doubters have become fewer in number since Dana White appeared on the postgame show of Game 1 of the NBA’s Eastern Conference Finals on ESPN and said, “The McGregor side is done. I’m starting to work on the Mayweather side now.”

McGregor himself confirmed to TheMacLife a few days later that he had signed his end of the contract. In his statement, McGregor said,

“It is an honour to sign this record breaking deal alongside my partners Zuffa LLC, The Ultimate Fighting Championship and Paradigm Sports Management,” McGregor said.

“The first, and most important part of this historic contract has now officially been signed off on. Congratulations to all parties involved. We now await Al Haymon and his boxer’s signature in the coming days.”

While one end of the deal is done, there is still another party involved. Mayweather has been asked multiple times about the possibility of the fight happening. This past Sunday he gave an answer that may give fight fans more hope. Mayweather told Fight Hype,

“They said Conor McGregor signed his end of the deal. I look forward to signing my end of the deal. I haven’t signed my end of the deal yet so once I get home, I’ll communicate with my team, I’ll talk with Al Haymon, I’ll talk with Leonard, and we’ll see what we come up with. We’ll put all our great minds together and we’re gonna have another super fight.”

McGregor has made it clear that he’s already training for the fight and doesn’t care for Floyd talking about the fight. McGregor recently took to Twitter to put more pressure on Mayweather.

With one-half of the contract signed, Mayweather appearing more and more interested by the day, and now a rumoured date, this super fight may be much closer than anyone expected.
