UFC 216 reportedly adds a Flyweight fight to its stacked fight card as two fan favourites meet in Las Vegas.
Paige VanZant (7-3) is set to face Jessica Eye (11-6-1) at UFC 216 in a Flyweight bout Oct. 7 at UFC 216, according to Adam Hill from the Las Vegas Review-Journal. This comes after the news that the UFC added a women’s Flyweight division (125lbs).
People will get the chance to see the division in action on the 26th season of the Ultimate Fighter, set to air Aug. 30. The coaches for the season will be former Bellator and UFC Lightweight champion, Eddie Alvarez and newly signed top contender, Justin Gaethje. An inaugural champion will be crowned at the season finale.
VanZant is known for fighting in the Strawweight division (115 lbs), a weight class down from Flyweight. VanZant is coming back from a submission loss to Michelle Waterson. She looks to come back with a victory in the new division.
Eye, however, will be moving down a weight class. Her previous weight class was Bantamweight (135lbs), but her last four fights have been losses. Eye’s last loss comes from a split decision against Bethe Correia.
The winner of this bout will look to be in contention for a title fight in the future. With a heap of new talent coming into the division after TUF 26, exciting fights await all the ladies coming into the octagon.
UFC 216 is already stacked with Tony Ferguson vs Kevin Lee for the interim Lightweight championship set. Derrick Lewis, who is now coming out of retirement, is set to face Fabricio Werdum. Other fights include Will Brooks vs Nik Lentz and Bobby Green vs Lando Vannata. UFC 216 takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
