UFC 217: Joanna Jedrzejczyk defends against Rose Namajunas in NYC
The UFC has added another huge fight to their return to New York City later this year.
UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk is set to defend her title in New York later this year. The polish striking Queen will take on TUF finalist and rising star Rose Namajunas.
News of the fight was first reported a few months ago by MMA-today and was confirmed by the UFC early on Tuesday afternoon.
Jedrzejczyk (14-0) is looking to defend her title for the second time in 2017 after she most recently dispatched of Jessica Andrade at UFC 211 via unanimous decision. The Polish starlet has looked better and better each time she steps into the octagon and with a stiff test upcoming we may see the best version of her that we have ever seen.
From day one Namajunas (6-3) has been one to watch. She spent time on season 20 of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ making it all the way to the finale but was submitted by tournament winner Carla Esparza. The loss seemed to wake a beast and Rose has gone 4-1 in the time since the show with wins over Angela Hill, Paige VanZant, Tecia Torres and Michelle Waterson.
‘Thug Rose’ has only lost to former title challenger Karolina Kowalkiewicz via split decision at UFC 201.
The addition of this title fight will be number three on the card and it will join the Michael Bisping vs. Georges St-Pierre and Cody Garbrandt vs. T.J Dillashaw contests. On paper UFC 217 could potentially be the event of the year and is stacked from top to bottom with talented fighters and mouth watering match-ups.
UFC 217 takes place on Nov. 4 at Madison Square Garden in New York and will be headlined by Michael Bisping vs. Georges St-Pierre for the middleweight championship.
